Double-Double Animal Style (In-N-Out Copycat)

When In-N-Out Burger first opened in 1948, the company only provided a basic menu of burgersfries and beverages. The foods it prepared were made on-site from fresh ingredients, including its french fries which were sliced and cooked to order. Unlike other major competitors in the hamburger fast food restaurant business (Burger KingMcDonald's and Wendy's), as the chain has expanded over the years, it has not added products such as chicken or salads to its menu since 1976 and has never changed its preparation methods.
The company utilizes a vertical integration model for its raw ingredients, procuring and manufacturing much of its food supplies in-house. The company does not utilize freezers in its operations, shipping food daily to its stores from its facilities. Instead of a broad menu like other competitors, In-N-Out has become known for its "secret menu", or unadvertised variations of its burgers that are based on customer preferences, such as the popular "Animal Style".

Secrete Sauce

  • Cup Mayo
  • 3 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1-2 Tbsp Sweet Pickle Relish
  • 1/2-1 Tsp Sugar
  • ½ Tsp White Vinager

Caramelized Onion

  • 1-2 Yellow Onion
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2-1 Tbsp(as needed) Water



  • Heat and slow cook 1 Tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet, on Medium-High heat. Add the diced onions and salt, and give it a good stir.
  • Reduce heat to medium/low. Cook, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes, or until onions are lightly browned.
  • Turn heat back up to Medium-High. Add 1/2 to 1 Tbps water, stir and let cook about 2-3 minutes until water evaporates (or until onions start to slightly stick to the pan). Repeat 2 more times untill CARAMELIZED


  • Add all ingredents, whisk until well combined. Cover, and store in the refrigerator until ready to use


  • Season the patties wit s&p
    Add some oil a large skillet/griddled and heat on Medium-High for a few minutes (you want the pan/griddle HOT before adding the patties). Place 2 patties on the pan
  • After placing in the pan/griddle season with s&p and smear evenly with yellow mustard!
  • Cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes or so. Flip, then cook 1 minute, then more then add sliced cheese on both patties, and 1 heaping Tbsp of caramelized onions on one patty.
  • Stack the cheese patty on the onion patty. and follow this to build your burger
